Dr. Alexandra Schmitz began her legal career at Gleiss Lutz, one of the leading international business consulting firms in Germany. Here it advised national and international active enterprises and groups as well as their management bodies in all areas of economic criminal law, tax criminal law and customs law. Her clients also included individuals.

In addition to her advice on cross-border matters at Gleiss Lutz, Dr. Alexandra Schmitz gained experience as a foreign attorney at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP in New York in US criminal law, in particular in the area of white collar crime, while she was employed there. Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP has an excellent reputation in criminal litigation, including white collar crime.

Since January 2005, Dr. Alexandra Schmitz has been working in her own law firm, whereby she is still friends with the law firms Gleiss Lutz as well as Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP in New York.

Dr. Alexandra Schmitz was involved not only in legal consulting but also in training the next generation of lawyers. She was a lecturer within the framework of the legal clerkship reformed in 2003 for the Stuttgart Bar Association until 2014. She is an examiner for the Second State Examination in Law and for the EU Aptitude Examination for Foreign Lawyers at the Ministry of Justice of the State of Baden-Württemberg.

She is a member of the Vereinigung Deutscher Strafverteidiger e. V., a member of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Strafecht des Deutschen Anwaltsvereins Berlin and a member of the Anwaltverein Stuttgart.

She had been a member of the Board of Directors since 2006 and a member of the Presidium of the Stuttgart Bar Association since 2007 until 2012.

From 2007 to 2012, she was elected as delegate of the Stuttgart Bar Association to the statutory meeting of the Federal Bar Association Berlin; there she was deputy chairwoman of the 4th Committee "Cross-border Legal Transactions" until 2012.

Since 2012, she has been repeatedly appointed by the Ministry of Justice as a member of the Baden-Württemberg Bar Court. There she is chairwoman of the 3rd senate for disciplinary proceedings against professionals.

Since July 2009, she has been regional coordinator for the southwestern area and is involved in the working group on criminal tax law of Wirtschaftsstrafrechtlichen Vereinigung e.V. (Association of Economic Criminal Law) (WisteV).
